Adsense CTR - Increasing Adsense Income

About two weeks ago I posted some of my thoughts on the easiest way to increase your google adsense income, (you can find that post here) I also mentioned that I was going to be spending the rest of the day tweaking site layouts, ad positions and color schemes to hopefully push my adsense CTR up as well.

Since that time I have updated two websites that both drive a fair amount of traffic and earn me some nice revenue with adsense. I started with a site I launched last summer in June targeting the Tour de France, over the last 12 months the site has steadily climbed the search engine serps and bounced out of the google sandbox early this spring (just in time for this years racing season). During the last few months the site has driven more and more visitors each month, and with this years Tour de France about to get underway I wanted to make sure I had the site optimised in order to earn as much as I possibly can this summer.

The other site I spent some time tweaking was a culinary site which has enjoyed a fairly decent CTR and has made me some very good money for the amount of time I have put into the site over the last year. Below are the results after about two weeks with the new ad layouts.

Site # 1 – The Bike Racing Site)
Before making any changes to this sites layouts the site enjoyed an above average CTR (google does not allow me to reveal my CTR) and made me about $5 to $6 dollars a day. Nothing to write home about (remember that this site targets the Tour de France and traffic will surge in the coming months). Since tweaking the site theme (I switched wordpress themes to allow for better ad integration) I was able to nearly double my CTR and have increased my earnings by about 40%. Not bad for about two days of work!

Site #2 – The Culinary Site)
The results were much more dramatic with this site as the site drives an average of 1500 visitors a day. Before I made any changes the CTR of this site was very good however I only used one google ad on each and every page of the site (I used a adsense leader board ad) because the site only used one ad I figured I could easily push the CTR up even further. Before making any changes the site earned me an average of $25.74 cents over an 11 month period.

After adding the large rectangle ad box to my site I was able to increase the adsense click through rate by about 28%! The best part is how that has effected my daily earnings with this site, over the last 10 days or so the site has averaged $39.46!

What is most impressive about that fact is that I spent about 2.5 hours adding the extra adsense add to about 300 pages. Less than 3 hours of work to make nearly $15 more a day, truly one of the easiest ways to increase YOUR adsense income is to work to improve YOUR CTR!
