Blogging Hacks And Blog Tags Technorati
As a “hack” webmaster I soon understood the importance of writing for the search engines and just how important it was to create decent content while using relevant keywords or keyword phrases. Today basic seo principles that worked years ago still apply:
Keywords In Title
Keywords In An H1 or H2 Tag
Good Anchor Text
Of course these basics still apply today however now webmaster need to address “penalties” or “filters” that can have adverse effects on search engine ranking such as:
– Duplicate Content Filter
– Auto Generated Or Software Driven Content
– Link Growth That Is Too Aggressive (Too Many Links Too Fast)
– Sites Growth (Too Much Too Fast)
What I saw when I started to look at using blogs for a content management system or (cms) was simplicity, having a program worry about internal link structure proper use of an H1 or H2 tag while also generating an rss feed and pinging sites to bring search spiders to my site. Bottom line is that these are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the “why blogs do well in search engines”. Once I started to embrace these items I really was excited about what I saw. I started to really dig in and I am still learning about some of the blog nuances that can have a positive effect on search engine rankings or “serps”.
One of the most important aspects of attaining decent rankings is inbound links, the good news is that simply setting up a blog in the proper fashion can mean the difference between an extra dozen inbound links from authoritative sites or not.
Choosing Technorati Tags For Your Blog
Technorati is a “blog search engine of sorts that allows users to find recent updated blogs on nearly any topic you can think of. They do this by using a “tagging system” and wordpress has built this into their blogging platform in a simple and convenient way. Anytime you create a “blog category” a wordpress blog also creates a technorati tag for that word within that category. If you look at my categories to the right you will notice my categories are:
Contextual Advertising
Google Adsense
Internet Marketing Ideas
Internet Marketing Research
Keyword Optimization
Make Money Blogging
Niche Marketing
Open Source CMS
SEO Optimization
Ect ….
Each of my categories are tagged by technorati as mentioned, if you visit the “tag page” of technorati you can see a list of tags that technorati keeps track of. Tags listed in large font are more active than tags listed in smaller font. It can be fun to search through these tags, you will also notice that some of the tag pages on technorati even have pagerank (and we like that). If you check the tag for “wordpress” you will see that the page is ranked a google pagerank 6 meaning allot of people are linking to that page. Anytime I post to that wordpress category on this blog technorati places my post on that page which points a link to my site for a period of time. Just how long the link stays posted on technorati for any tag depends on just how active that topic is among bloggers. I like to try to find topics or tags that have a bit of pr but are not too active. Sometimes posts will remain on a page for up to a week or more, more links means more chances for the search engines to find your site and new content.
This another positive aspect of using blogs and wordpress in particular to drive your site. In the coming days and weeks look for additional posts about optimizing your blog and driving traffic tips and ideas.
