Fighting Blog Comment Spam - Wordpress Plugin

Several days ago I posted to my blog about getting myself (and a handful of sites) with the wordpress plugin Akismet. Well several days ago I finally got the plugin working and I am happy to report it was quite simple.

Create a free blog at www.wordpress.com
With your new blog you will be given a wordpress api key, keep track of this key number and never share it with anyone
Log into your wordpress 2.0 blog and activate the Akimet comment spam plugin
Next enter your wordpress api key and your set!

After installing this plugin on several of my blogs I was able to easily delete hundreds of comment spams which then got routed to the main central server to aid and assist other blog sites in identifying additional comment spam. The wordpress community is quite active in developing great plugins to add functionality and extend the wordpress platform, the Akimet plugin is one great example.
