Improve Productivity - Techo Traps And Time Wasters

Over the past two days I have been busy! Hey anyone who tells you making great money online is easy and takes little work is either lying to you or got very … very lucky. You see I have been in the process of launching about 4 or 5 new blogs which I will then build and add to gradually. When I first jumped on the blog bandwagon I took my time so I would really be able to grasp the concepts and take full advantage of what blogs can offer an online marketer.

So even though I am up to my eyes in work right now I got trapped by what I like to call the “Techo Trap” and virtually lost about two days with no real “output”.

So what is the techno trap and why did I loose time and gain no real advantage over the last few days?

Well, I called it the techno trap simply because I was trying to install some fairly complex rss parsing scripts and blog plugins to be able to fetch some cool photo’s from flickr as people uploaded them in real time. It was and still is a great ideas, and adding these images to my site might add “stickyness” bring visitors back to my newly launched blog. However I spent two days downloading about 6 or 6 plugins, printed off about 20 pages of instruction manuals and really got nothing to work.

Now I could have been posting content to my new blog, or getting additional inbound links. This is what “really matters” content and inbound links. When I used to be an affiliate manager I often would tell affiliates that if their not adding unique content to their websites or increasing their link count then they were really not working.

Now I understand that sometimes it is important to learn a new skill or read up on marketing ideas and topics. However I often see people getting sucked up into information overload or understanding the latest wiz bang marketing software. When instead if they just published more pages to their sites and got more incoming links they would be much better off.

So I try to live by my own words and always try to focus on “how many new pages did I post today” or did I get any additional inbound links to my site. These activities are what have paid my bills over the last three years. Not installing new software, not reading an ebook but simply opening up frontpage and hitting publish. Now I prefer opening blogjet and hitting publish …. but the concept is the same.

So last night I managed to get about 4 or 5 new pages posted to the new blog I am working on and got myself out of “web developer mode” thank god! I sally prefer to hire someone at rentacoder for design work, articles and coding. This keeps me writing and I continue to make money …. think about it!
