Internet Niche Marketing Benefits For Affiliates And Marketers
Over the last several days I have posted about the flexibility of adsense and the power and ease of wordpress blogs. Today I want to go a bit deeper into “niche marketing” and share some of my thoughts on combining blogging and adsense. For me over the last three years online it has always been about being found on the top search engines like MSN, Google and Yahoo. Doing this takes time, energy and above all patiences.
I searched google: define: patience
Patience is the ability and willingness to wait a long time or to carry out a task that takes a long time, especially one that is by itself not heavy, but boring. It also means not easily getting angry or not showing anger in situations of human communication where the other is unreasonable. It is commonly referred to as a virtue, though it is not one of the traditional theological or cardinal virtues. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patience
Sure makes sense to me, I worked for 6 months on my first content site without seeing any real visitor counts, having the ability and willingness to wait a long time while building up a site is vital. Nearly any site I have ever launched has always taken time and energy before results were evident.
However by working smart, and targeting a (true) niche as well as harnessing the marketing power of a blog this can be shortened to a degree. I have always felt that the best way to do this was to target search terms that other webmasters pay little attention to for various reasons, this is often called “low hanging fruit” and can drive a fair amount of traffic when hundreds of pages are created all targeting different “low hanging fruit” types of search terms.
Today in marketing circles online the term “niche” is used a bit too often and loosely as well, I hear people targeting “the credit card niche” or “mortgage niche” these are not my ideas of a niche… too competitive … too many other savvy marketers, ect ….
Web Definition Of: Niche Marketing
A marketing segmentation strategy in which the firm focuses on serving one segment of the market. Similar to segmented marketing, but a niche is a small distinguishable segment that can be uniquely served. Marketing and promoting a book to a specific group of buyers, such as people in a certain geographical region, or people with a specific hobby or interest. Books published for a niche market may be sold nationally, but mainly are sold through specialized retail outlets. A niche market is a specialist area of the market. Niche marketing is therefore selling to that area of the marketing. It demands a very different approach to mass marketing of goods and services.
My method to date with blogs (important to also realize that this is about my third month as a blogger) has been to pick up topics that were NOT beaten to death online, these topics might be related to a favorite hobby, a time sensitive event (think sports, Holidays, ect) or a cult favorite movie or band. Any of these types of topics will be popular at sometime online or have a faithful group that will hunt down such information. When I started my first blog I picked a subject I have loved for some time, The Tour de France. I posted daily and often, heck I just barely got my blog theme finished before the start of the race. I had an easy time with posting because I loved the event and it was fun to be able to share that love online and make money! As the event came to a close the site was earning about $5 a day in adsense. Not a ton mind you, however the site also had tons of inbound links and was popular in the blog community. I am guessing next year that blog will be worth at least a few thousands bucks in the summer as the site will already have about 200 pages, pagerank, link popularity and fans of my blog!
So next time you decide to launch a blog think about your topic or “niche” and think about creating a space for you online that is truly your niche!
