Meta Description Blog Plugin For SEO

Probably my favorite seo plugin for wordpress right now would have to be Head META Description, which adds a much needed meta description to blog posts as well as catagories, pages and the blogs index page. While wordpress cranks out very light search engine friendly “webpages” their were a few things that were missing straight out of the box. The meta description is one of those items that is used often with various search engines when listings pages (google often uses a meta description when listing a “page”). Because of how the meta description is used with search engines it become a very important aspect of your webpage. After all if the meta description becomes the description that google uses to describe your pages you will want to leverage that and be able to write it yourself rather than have google simply pull random words from your pages.

I like this plug in for the customization it allows, so much in fact that I have had to tweak the settings a number of times to truly understand how it works (usually the case with a good plugin). This plugin will take either the main content from a blog post or page or the excerpt. Personally I like to use the excerpt as it allows me to craft exactly what will appear in my meta description and ultimately on search engines like google.

While their are other plugins available this one also takes care of catagory pages and the blogs index which is a nice feature (although I am still trying to get catagories to work).
