Removing The Egg On My Face
Friends, yesterday I posted (post located here) about the new service located over at http://www.adimpact.com/, I received a blog update from Shawn Collins (Affiliate Merchant Provider & Guru) about the new floating ads that the company had integrated with google adsense. The email mentioned that the ads were inline with Adsense policy and I had no reason to doubt Shawn Collins.
I was excited at the opportunity and while many might feel these types of ads are “intrusive” they are attention getting and I was sure they would push click through rates up. Many marketers have used these types of “floating” pops to drive newsletter subscribers (I guess they felt they were not too intrusive for that) in the past.
Regardless as mentioned in my blog posting yesterday I had fired off an email to the Google Adsense team to make sure these ads were within guidelines. They responded with the following:
Publishers are not permitted to alter the behaviour of Google ads. This includes implementing the AdSense ad code in a floating windows. We therefore ask that you do not use www.adimpact.com to place your Google
ads in floating windows. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
I apologize if I sent anyone in the wrong direction yesterday, if you have implemented these types of pops on your site be aware they are NOT within the guidelines.

I had read about these sorts of tools before which attempt to dramatically increase your adsense revenue and have always had my reservations. I was interested about this service you talked about but yet again google does not allow it. Therefore, in fear of risking my account and therfore the money I have yet to be paid I am going to stick to simple optimization techniques such as the ones you have suggest and ones I found in this adsense guide which I have found to be most successful and to anyone who laughs off how much impact simple colour changes and position variance can affect your CTR I implore them to try it as I myself have seen the benefits. So thankyou for your great tips and please keep them up. PS thankyou for clearing up whether this system was google legal or not I could have ended up with egg on my face if you had not.
